UAE Marks 1,000 Days of Humanitarian Mission Supporting Gaza Relief Efforts
The UAE has made an important humanitarian step after 1,000 days of uninterrupted humanitarian delivery to civilians in the Gaza Strip. Under the leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, it will become one of the largest and longest running humanitarian operations of the region.
The UAE thus has been a key partner in providing international support with more than US$3.89 billion in financial and material assistance. Official data indicates that around 46% of all the international humanitarian assistance provided has come from the country since the operation began.
Multi-Channel Humanitarian Lifeline
In an effort to get the necessary assistance to the affected communities even if logistics were difficult, the UAE had built a wide network of relief operations with the help of air, sea and road. This holistic approach enabled uninterrupted assistance to be delivered.
Over 770 food, medical, shelter, lifesaving personnel, and other cargo planes have delivered supplies. The UAE Air Force also made 81 “Birds of Goodness” airdrop missions to provide more than 4,000 tonnes of assistance directly to the difficult-to-access areas in the north of Gaza with a humanitarian air of support.
Maritime operations also have been of critical importance. Twenty-five relief ships were deployed by the UAE to Egypt’s Port of El Arish where it formed a strategic port for dropping various supplies into Gaza via land crossings.
Delivering Essential Aid at Scale
UAE has provided over 126,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid in 1,000 days. These resources include food, medicines, clean water supplies, emergency shelter supplies and more.
Humanitarian trucks have crossed into Gaza via land routes by the thousands to bring food and other supplies to help families whose lives are challenging.
Investing in Long-Term Humanitarian Infrastructure
In addition to emergency relief, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 is also devoted to broader, ongoing humanitarian aid, including providing healthcare, food, clean water, and community services.
The Gaza Field Hospital (GHF) and UAE Floating Hospital (UFH) in El Arish have provided intensive medical treatment, pediatric services, emergency healthcare and surgical services to a total of over 230,000 patients.
The UAE has also set up five automated bakeries to manufacture fresh bread on a daily basis and dozens of community kitchens have been established to feed the families that had left and are now displaced. Six desalination plants now provide safe drinking water to hundreds of thousands of people via their own pipeline systems to enhance access to clean water.
Supporting Recovery and Hope
An important part of the mission is the “Step of Hope” project that offers a high level of help with the availability of advanced prostheses and rehabilitation for civilians who have lost a limb. The UAE also has thousands of children who require additional support in areas of housing, education, psychological and social services.
These projects seek to contribute to the communities’ recovery, yet bring dignity back and enhance long-term living conditions.
