Katara Launches World Space Week 2026 Activities at Al Thuraya Planetarium
The Al Thuraya Planetarium has welcomed the special World Space Week 2026 programme to offer immersive space experiences and learning activities at Katara Cultural Village for Qatar’s visitors.
The four-day program takes place from October 4-7, with the theme this year being “Rocket Revolution” around the world. The subject is dedicated to the latest developments in launch vehicles, re-usable rockets and space exploration to the masses.
The activities at Al Thuraya Planetarium, Building 41, run daily from 4pm to 7pm. The programme includes the presence of Katara Cultural Village Foundation, Es’hailSat, World Space Week Qatar and SDG Ambassadors.
Immersive Space Experiences
Visitors can enjoy full-dome cinematic presentations and the planets, which aim to bring the universe and astronomy to the family, students and Astronomy buffs.
The 22-metre dome allows you to experience showings of space films and documentaries about the solar system, astronauts and great astronomical phenomena.
There are also practical aspects such as a Rocket Design Laboratory and Mission to Orbit and planetary engineering sessions. These workshops are designed to give the young participants the opportunity to learn about fundamental engineering concepts using hands-on experiments and building models.
Inspiring Qatar’s Next Generation
Organizers have said the idea is to foster an increased interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as to expose younger audiences to innovations that are helping to make space exploration a reality in the future.
The occasion also signifies Qatar’s increasing emphasis on the communication of science and technological awareness. Katara’s Web-based events will link international events during World Space Week to interactive local events, bringing complex concepts in aerospace closer to the general public.
The four-day event combines education, entertainment and hands-on learning to give attendees a chance to explore space science while learning about the innovation powering the people who will build the rockets of the future.
