Dubai Introduces New Visual Identity to Modernise Addressing System
Dubai has unveiled a new visual identity and a new streamlined addressing system aimed at making locations easier to identify, enhance the accessibility of the addresses and reinforce the visual identity of communities across Dubai.
It includes the new colour-coded area identities, new street signs, QR code-enabled house plates and Makani numbers. The project will be undertaken in 186 locations and in 19 sectors and will be phased in until 2030.
The new system will be based on five colours, each signifying the geographical features of various parts of Dubai. Blue will be used to denote close to sea regions, and gold will mark regions that have desert features.
The colour system aims to create a recognizable identity for districts and to enable easier identification of the different districts throughout the city by the residents and visitors. It is part of the Dubai wide urban development plans.
New house number plates will have Makani numbers along with an interactive QR code. Using the code people will be able to access location information and points of interest, as well as explanations of the meanings of street names.
The new plates are not only easier to address, but also more convenient. It will similarly offer a digital overlay to Dubai’s existing location infrastructure, enabling residents, visitors and businesses.
The Supreme Committee for Urban Planning and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Municipality have come together to launch the project. Implementation will start in the 4th QTR of 2026.
The first phase will install or replace over 2000 signs to take place in Za’abeel 1, Za’abeel 2, Nad Al Sheba, Al Khawaneej 1 and Nazwa. The work will be extended to other areas throughout the programme.
