Dubai Police Arrest Two Over Dh11.8 Million Phone Fraud
Dubai Police have arrested two persons for setting up an operation of phone fraud for which they allegedly defrauded UAE residents amounting to Dh11,877,532 ($3.2 million). On October 6, 2026, Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Centre linked all the complaints from investors to a series of arrests conducted by the police.
Suspects Allegedly Used Official Impersonation
Authorities say the suspects would supposedly pretend to be from government or international organizations when contacting the victims. They alleged that the persons were involved in serious crime or legal cases from abroad and pressured them to pay money for verification of finances, threatening them with legal action if they did not.
Victims Were Pressured to Transfer Assets
The alleged fraud apparently extended to bank transfers, where victims were asked to stay in hotels away from their families and friends while waiting to complete the transfers. In cases where such transfers were perceived as inadequate, alleged victims were forced to sell gold jewellery and the proceeds were regularly remitted and placed in external UAE accounts.
Investigation Leads to Two Arrests
The investigators reportedly followed money and messages on the phone prior to the arrests. The pair, who reportedly confessed to being recruited via social media by a foreign gang, were reportedly provided with information on the victims using a dedicated app. Their texts and phone data have been reportedly used for forensic analysis, to tie them to the operation.
Dubai Police advised residents to be aware while receiving phone calls for any donation or disclosure of confidential information. The organisation warned that people should not give away money or critical financial details in any odd phone call and legitimate government institutions and banks would never make such requests. If you suspect that any information is fraudulent information you can report it using Dubai Police’s eCrime channels (also the 901 non-emergency hotline).
