coalition intercepts missile from houthi

The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile projected from a Houthis controlled area towards the north of Riyadh, coalition officials said yesterday. The incident comes as security measures are enhanced throughout Saudi Arabia after a number of cross-border fire attacks to various regions of the Kingdom.

Air Defenses Respond to Multiple Threats

The latest-made interception comes after the previous one of an attacking ballistic missile was fired in the south of Saudi Arabia at Khamis Mushait. Air defenses of the coalition are likewise on high alert after a reported threat towards various regions in the Kingdom, such as Jazan and Najran. Defensive action helped to prevent wider damage and casualties, officials said.

Coalition Tracks Launch Site in Sanaa

Intelligence is searching for missile launch platforms associated with the attacks, coalition spokesman, Major-General Turki Al-Maliki said. Most of the threats came from Houthis-held territory, such as Sanaa, Saada and Amran and specifically a launch pad in Sanaa, which coalition forces have claimed they will target.

Escalation Extends Beyond Saudi Arabia

The new developments come on top of the wider military activity in Yemen. Houthi forces reportedly fired ballistic missiles towards Aden International Airport, causing a Cairo flight to make a “safe” landing at another airport in Jeddah and the gate to be shut down. The coalition has also been striking missile depots and launcher sites in Saada and in and around the city of Sanaa, despite the fighting.
