Qatar-Japan Strategic Partnership

The Tokyo event showcased Qatar-Japan relations, extending beyond the scope of traditional energy ties. Sheikh Mohammed had earlier turned over the page to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and dealt with economic cooperation, energy security, technology, innovations, trade and investment in advanced industries.

Japan is working on a comprehensive cooperation plan to bolster the economic and energy resilience of the Gulf countries, including Qatar, it said. Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the project and said Qatar is ready to build more cooperation with Japan on investment, artificial intelligence, as well as the current energy partnership.

Regional Security and Freedom of Navigation

The Foreign Ministers also had discussions on issues related to security in the region. On the situation of Iran in the region, the status of the talks between the U.S. and Iran, and the disorder in the maritime areas of the world, Motegi spoke about his concerns.

Both parties reiterated the need for de-escalating the situation and enabling safe shipping along waterways. Japan too acknowledged Qatar’s mediation in the diplomatic arena and pledged to cooperate more closely with Doha for more stability in the region.
