inside story of the dubai

A flydubai Flight FZ1073, which was carrying 242 passengers, was forced to make emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia while enroute from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 touched down safely, and flydubai announced that they had accounted for and all passengers were safe.

Sudden Emergency Over the Region

In-flight tracked data revealed the plane shifting its trajectory and plunging into a near-vertical dive while flying towards Tel Aviv. The flight had changed to international transponder code 7700 to mark a general emergency. It then relayed unlawful interference or hijacking information (Squawk 7500) and then bounced back to an emergency signal.

The peculiar signals raised immediate red flags and led to an immediate upsurge in security concerns since FZ1073 was on a trajectory toward the State of Israel. Israeli forces scrambled up to their fighters, and held emergency security consultations as they analyzed the situation, reports said.

Reports Point to Cockpit Altercation

The story that has surfaced is a rather different one from a foreign invasion. Israeli officials and several media reports indicated that the emergency was reportedly due to a physical confrontation between the two pilots on board the aircraft. The order of events is a topic of ongoing research.

All-eyed passengers reported screams and a frenzy on board the aircraft. One crash test pilot is rumored to have been stabbed, and that someone was helped to be restrained among the passengers. The information has not been verified independently in its entirety, and flydubai has not disclosed the exact news of what went on in the flight deck.

Emergency Landing in Tabuk

As the weather evolved FZ1073 turned off its course and flew close to Tabuk Regional Airport in the north west of Saudi Arabia. The aircraft touched down safely, and the crisis in the airspace was immediately over. Flydubai said it was cooperating with the authorities and more updated data would be available soon.

The accident also posed a diplomatic and logistical dilemma, as the plane had been en route to Israel but had touched down in Saudi Arabia.

What Happens Next?

Cockpit conversations, flight data records, crew reactions and crew surroundings are expected to be scrutinized in conjunction with the emergency transponder signals. The investigation will be helpful in determining specifically where the aircraft turned down, the reasons for the message to be sent as air-condition message 7500.
