The official sighting of the crescent moon had taken place in Dzulhijjah 1447 AH on Monday, May 18, 2026. Many Muslims in the UAE and throughout the Gulf nations have also been reminded of a vital spiritual dilemma during this hallowed period.
The first 10 days of Dzulhijjah are amongst the holiest days of Islam and many of its believers are preparing for the prayers and rituals of the blessed days wondering whether they could combine intentions, take the opportunity to catch up on missed fasts, or if they had already missed too many days. Fortunately, Islamic scholars give clear guidance on this issue.
Is It Too Late to Make Up Ramadan Fasts?
The “reform” is that entering into the month of Dzulhijjah with excellent fasting does not necessarily make a person sinful. In Islamic law, the time to make up fasts is delayed until the next Ramadan.
That leaves a few months in which Muslims can prepare themselves for Ramadan 2027. Believers are encouraged to pay off debts by doing the fasting before the day of Eid Al Adha or before the Day of Arafah, but there is no rule requiring any debts of the Qadha fasts to be paid before that.
Can You Perform Qadha Fasts During Dzulhijjah?
Of course, Muslims can observe Qadha fasts during the first nine days of Dzulhijjah. Most of all, says many scholars, this is a great spiritual opportunity, as days today have great rewards.
During this blessed time fasting serves as a component of the mandatory act of worship as God’s blessings are also enjoyed during this period in this regard to Eid Al Adha. Fasting on Eid day, however, is not allowed.
Can You Combine Qadha and Arafah Intentions?
One of the misconceptions which is prevalent is whether it is permissible for a Muslim to fast a Ramadan make-up fast and then the Sunnah fast of Arafah with one intention?
Most Islamic scholars have stated that it is not possible to combine a required fast with an optional fast into one intention. When a person wants to catch up on a fast that he or she missed, the purpose should be to make up for the missed days for the specific purpose of Qadha fasting in Ramadan.
Scholars also contend that the believer will be rewarded for his worship during the blessed Dzulhijjah for either the primary intention or that the worship was also carried out on the days of Dzulhijjah.

Important Days When Fasting Is Not Allowed
It would be better on Wednesday, 27th of May 2026, that Muslims avoid fasting during the occasion of Eid Al Adha when that day is the birthday of any martyr. Furthermore, no fasting is allowed in Islam during the Days of Tashreeq (May 28, 29 and 30).
Qadha Fast days should be arranged beforehand before the Eid. The Day of Aafiyah on Tuesday, May 26, is viewed as a special day for people to settle up and pay off their act of fasting.
Why Keeping Track of Missed Fasts Matters?
Many Muslims forget or fail to observe the days of fasting due to a lack of counting, especially those who have a fast-paced job and have to take care of their families. There is great advantage for scholarship in keeping a written or digital record of all the fasts that have not yet been observed, so that there will be no misapprehension at a later stage of the year.
When there is no exact date to remember, Islam recommends to do the work that can be maximum assumed and do those fasts for peace of mind.
