Oman’s New Minimum Wage Set at OMR 400

Oman will raise its national minimum wage to OMR 400 from OMR 325, says Minister of Labour Dr. Mahad bin Saeed Ba’awin. The proposal which is still under consideration will be referred to the Financial and Economic Committee and other interested parties for evaluation. University graduates minimum wage is also on the table at OMR 700.

The 2025 plan by the Labour Ministry seeks to produce 45,000 employment opportunities with 11,000 training and 24,000 private sector positions. The submission comes at the backdrop of Oman’s continuing economic reforms, syncing wages with cost of living and inflation.

Earlier, the minimum wage had been increased from OMR 200 to OMR 325 due to economic pressures. Officials point out that this hike is not due to cuts in wages but economic compulsions. The General Federation of Oman Workers calls for a careful examination prior to approval of the wage hike to ensure sustainable economic effect.
