Oman Secures Crucial 1-0 Victory Over Kuwait to Boost Qualification Chances
The Red Warriors of Oman boosted their qualification chances for the FIFA World Cup with a crucial 1-0 victory over Kuwait at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium on Tuesday. The win helped Oman to stay fourth in Group B with 10 points from eight matches.
Rasheed Jaber’s team now has a comfortable five point lead over Kuwait with two games left to play against Jordan and Palestine in June. South Korea tops Group B with 16 points, Jordan is in second place with 13 points and Iraq is in third place with 12 points. The top two teams qualify directly to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the third and fourth placed teams qualify for the fourth round.
Kuwait began the match with an aggressive offensive approach. In the 7th minute, Omani goalkeeper Ibrahim Al Mukhaini made a mistake, which almost led to an opening goal for Kuwait but Khaled Hajiah’s strike was fortunate for Oman, tipped away and over the goalpost. In the 32nd minute, Oman answered with a powerful shot from Arshad Al Alawi that found the side netting.
Oman managed to break the deadlock in the 56th minute. Amjad Al Harthi sent in a great ball from the right and Issam Al Sabhi headed the ball past Kuwait’s goalkeeper Khaled Al Rashidi. Kuwait appealed for a penalty as they pushed for an equalizer but the referee’s decision was overturned by VAR. Kuwait’s Eid Al Rashedi and Mohammad Daham attempted to score late in the match but Oman held them off and got the three points.
Oman still has the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup after earning a tremendous win over Kuwait. Oman now goes into its final two matches with confidence after its 1-0 victory over Kuwait.
