Qatar Builds World’s Largest 3D-Printed Schools
At the moment, Qatar is beginning the world’s biggest 3D-printed construction project, which will incorporate two public schools created using COBOD’s BODXL 3D printer. This project, over a total of 40,000 square meters, is 40 times larger than the current record.UCC Holding, which is a Grade A contractor, has partnered with Ashghal (Public Works Authority) to create these schools, and each will be a two-story structure on a site of 100m by 100m. In preparation for the challenge, the team organized more than 100 test prints in Doha using COBOD’s BOD2 printer. Those tests were necessary to help fine-tune the end concrete mixes for Qatar’s climate and also to ensure a high build quality.

Construction will take place overnight to minimize material usage, propose shorter construction timelines, and reduce carbon printing will be at Qatar’s core on this project.
The architectural design of the schools draws on the character of Qatar’s desert, including curved walls shaped like dunes, and these artistic elements were only possible due to the ease of 3D printing. If everything stays on track, I expect the schools will be a new standard for educational projects and will be constructed by late 2025. This project demonstrates a commitment to walk the walk, with Qatar as a thought leader in action on innovation and sustainability at scale, with future projects around digital construction technologies.
