16 countries take to the sand this February to decide beach soccer’s next champion. Dubai is hosting the 12th edition of the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup from February 15 to 25, inviting the biggest names to deliver the very best that the discipline has to offer.

Takuya Akaguma, Catarino, Chiky, Edson Hulk, Marco Giordani, the Martins twins, Raoul Mendy, Moslem Mesigar, Walid Mohammad, Ozu Moreira, Lucas Ponzetti, Rodrigo and Heimanu Taiaru are among the stars who are looking to light up the tournament.

The participating teams at this year’s edition include Iran, Japan, Oman, the UAE, Egypt, Senegal, the US, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Tahiti, Belarus, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Egypt and Colombia are making their first-ever appearance, and the hosts, their eighth.

Dubai has become a beach soccer hub in the last few years. Fifa’s global funding programme has led to the creation or renovations of beach soccer pitches and execution of competitions across the globe. Today, over 200 countries embrace the sport.

The FBSWC is Fifa’s highest-scoring tournament. Its 2021 edition in Russia averaged a record-breaking 9.44 goals per game, with a staggering 302 goals scored across 32 different matches organised, according to a report by Friends of Football.

The Fifa beach soccer tournament has been receiving increasing attention lately. The 2021 event attracted 63 million viewers around the world, with each match reporting an average viewership of more than 2.2 million people.
