In the UAE, the celebration of the National Water Day and Water Week at the 50th anniversary of the day on the 50th anniversary of the event marks the UAE resolve to remain committed to water sustainability globally. In the course of the visit the delegation visited the amazing Japan’s efforts over the past 50 years to educate and popularise water saving and sustainable resource management.

These experiences were informative for countries which are striving to develop water systems resilient to increasing water-related environmental pressures.

UAE Highlights Global Cooperation Ahead of 2026 UN Water Conference

His Excellency Al-Ala’a welcomed the international symposium, and noted that the UAE and the Arab Republic of Egypt are co-chairing the Rabat interactive dialogue for “Water for Planet” as one of the key dialogues that will help prepare for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which will be co-hosted in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Governments, researchers, the business sector, and local communities are poised to partner on implementing that and finding practical, scalable solutions to Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all,” he reiterated, adding that the partnership represents a unique chance to tackle poverty, support the SDG process, and advance marginalized people in building a brighter future.

Climate-Driven Water Challenges

The symposium also brought attention to the rising importance of the global water resources on climate change. Communities, economies and critical infrastructure are under stress caused by recurrent floods, droughts, water scarcity and ecosystem degradation in all parts of the world.

His Excellency emphasized the need for water management systems that are able to adapt to these future shifts and more resilient to future climate risks, that are flexible and integrated.
