Lana Nusseibeh Set for UN Interactive Dialogue Amid Secretary-General Bid
Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE Minister of State, will be attending an interactive dialogue at the United Nations on October 27, 2026, as she seeks to be the next UN Secretary-General. The centre and key priorities of her campaign are institutional independence and at the same time modernizing the functioning of multilaterals involving proactive diplomacy as the leadership of the organization transitions.
UN Interactive Dialogue Puts Lana Nusseibeh in Focus
The Lana Nusseibeh interactive session at the UN Headquarters will be held at 11pm UAE time and will be broadcasted on UN Web TV. As part of the process to replace António Guterres, currently in his second term until December 31, 2026, Nusseibeh will share her ideas in exercising her role with member states.
Lana Nusseibeh Outlines Independent UN Leadership
Nusseibeh has vowed to respect the UN Charter and protect himself from external pressure put forward by any government. She urges a change from a crisis approach to a more proactive diplomatic approach, emphasises faster multilateral action, ensures climate resiliency and promotes digital governance based on fairness.
Lana Nusseibeh Bid Emphasises Proactive Diplomacy
Lana’s campaign says the United Nations chief should be a leader in dealing with the proliferating conflicts or a bystander. Nusseibeh has also emphasized the need for ongoing communication with all member states along with enhanced actions of the international community in humanitarian crises, including Sudan.
UN Secretary-General Race Draws Regional Support
On October 21, Nusseibeh was formally nominated by the UAE. The Gulf Cooperation Council, Jordan, Morocco, Greece, Mauritania and Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority have all supported her candidacy.
She is one candidate among many others vying for the succession to UN boss Guterres, and the process is to be determined by the UN member states and members of the UN Security Council.
