8 Arrested in Dubai Over Dubai Fake Driving Licence Scheme
The Dubai Police has detained eight people in connection with an illicit driving licence scheme along with officials from the RTA and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The offenders allegedly would offer the customers driving licenses that required no lessons and no tests or travel requirements. In the Dubai fake licence incident it is said that the customers were targeted through local transaction-processing offices.
Gang Charged AED 10000 Per Licence
The network was found to have quoted customers AED 10,000 to get a foreign driving licence from a neighbouring country, authorities said. The suspects allegedly used a “legitimate licence exchange” filing system, which permits eligible foreign licence holders to fulfil their certificates of licence with UAE licences without further tests. Those arrangements were Neale’s attempt to validate what were in reality documents obtained by fraud.
Authorities Warn Licence Buyers Too
Unqualified drivers may end up operating road vehicles without training and testing, putting the lives of motorists, passengers and walkers at serious risk, Dubai Police said. Authorities also emphasized that customers who are well-aware of this can be fined, penalised and prosecuted if they are involved in buying licences through illegal methods. The blame can be on the organizers of the scheme, too, authorities said.
Fraud Scheme Raises Road Safety Concerns
The arrests are part of the UAE Police’s historical campaign to ensure the security of the UAE driving license system and the safety of the roads. The case also illustrates the potential dangers surrounding violating international licence exchange agreements for fraudulent purposes. Police advised people to stick to the official licensing protocol, and that they should be aware of offers selling licences without completing all the mandatory training and exams.
