UAE Emerges as One of World’s Most Resilient Nations: Study
The UAE has emerged as one of the world’s most resilient nations in a 16-market global study covering more than 11,000 respondents. The results demonstrate high levels of public trust in Government initiatives around wellbeing, a sense of belonging to their community and the nation’s capacity to equip upcoming generations with the skills to meet challenges.
UAE Residents Report Strong Wellbeing Support
The study reveals that 76% of the UAE residents feel that government efforts for wellbeing are positively affecting their mental wellbeing. The figure highlights the level of awareness of wellbeing and resilience support within institutions.
The UAE also had a robust sense of community belonging with 79% saying they feel they belong. The outcome ranked the country amongst those with the highest levels of feeling of belonging globally.
Confidence in the Next Generation
Resilience goes beyond wellbeing in the here and now, with 70% of those living in the UAE indicating that the next generation is proving to be resilient in developing the skills to meet future challenges.
The results also point to further opportunities to enhance resilience. A lack of financial preparedness remains a concern with approximately 16% of the UAE residents reporting that they do not have a financial buffer.
Priorities for the workplace also vary according to income. 41.3% of middle and higher income workers have flexible working as a key priority, compared to 31.6% of lower income workers who see job security and job clarity as being more important.
Economic Strength Supports Resilience
The UAE’s overall economy also is a factor in its resilience profile. According to information provided the country is, by all measures, first on the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor for developing an entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The country is economically diversified with more than 70% contribution from non-oil sectors. Other supporting factors identified are low public debt, measured around 30% GDP, and the pegging of the dirham to the American dollar.
High Levels of Institutional Trust
Another key part of the UAE’s resilience picture is its public confidence. Data revealed by Edelman Trust Barometer in the study reveals 82% confidence in the government in the UAE.
The results, along with good indicators of wellbeing, show community belonging, entrepreneurship and economic diversification as factors of resilience, emanating from individual and institutional factors.
