UAE Expands Humanitarian Efforts to Address Global Hunger

The UAE is strengthening its humanitarian commitments to tackle food insecurity and malnutrition in vulnerable communities worldwide. The country is continuing its efforts to broaden its partnerships and emergency funding and food distribution programmes through UAE Global Hunger Relief initiatives. Such actions include supporting populations impacted by conflict, climate shocks and inadequate access to nutritious food.

Partnerships Strengthen International Food Assistance

MBRGI has been collaborating with UNICEF on significant nutrition programmes. Meanwhile, the UAE is represented on the World Food Programme’s Executive Board where it has the opportunity to voice its opinions on global food security issues. These ties complement and facilitate coordinated action on hunger and nutrition outcomes of vulnerable people.

Emergency Aid Targets Crisis Affected Regions

The humanitarian response from the UAE includes financial support for conflict-affected communities in Sudan, and support to address food insecurity due to the impact of climate on various countries in the East Africa region, as well as food parcel donations to the drought-stricken regions of East Africa. 

Relief operations also depend on the road and aerial transport system, for bringing relief supplies to the victims of distress areas. The interventions are aimed at establishing food access in emergencies.

Food Security Strategy Supports Long Term Resilience

UAE is also taking steps to champion innovation in the agricultural sector with its own National Food Security Strategy 2051, alongside its international support. Vertical farming, hydroponics and agricultural technology initiatives are helping to enhance production and supply chain strength and resilience. 

The establishment of Dubai’s Food Tech Valley is part of the spirit of innovations aimed at discovering new routes of sustainable food production and disseminating around the globe new skills and knowledge that may help UAE contribute to achieving global food security.
