Top Qatari Authors and Books Featured at the 2026 Istanbul Arabic Book Fair

The 11th Istanbul International Arabic Book Fair at the Yenikapı Eurasia Exhibition and Art Center on 15 – 23 August 2026 is a prominent occasion where Qatar will be represented. The theme of this year’s pavilion is “The Story Continues”, which is available to read in a variety of literature, poetry, Islamic thought, visual arts and cultural heritage.

More than 300 publishing firms took part in the fair from a total of more than 30 countries giving Qatar a vital platform to showcase its literary and intellectual heritage to Turkish, Arab and international readers.

Abdulaziz Al-Mahmoud

Abdulaziz Al-Mahmoud is one of the famous Qatari writers who has authored historical novels based on the maritime history and trading routes of the Gulf, in addition to the political landscape of the region.

In his publications such as The Corsair and The Holy Sail, he focuses on history and fiction, and offers a ‘friendly’ view of the Gulf’s interaction with the sea and evolving political history.

Kaltham Al-Ghanim

Dr. Kaltham Al-Ghanim is yet another aspect of the literary and academic culture in Qatar. Her fields of research include sociology, short stories, folklore and documentation of traditional Qatari society.

She works on recovering the different aspects of coastal traditions and oral history cultures alongside their relationship with social customs, and the change of the Qatari society, through the years.

Nasser Fakhroo and Jamal Faiz

The concept is also explored in the works of Nasser Fakhroo and Jamal Faiz, two Qatari short writers. In these stories, they address the evolving structures of modern families, changing social identities and generational experiences in the modern Gulf.

These writers together show the ways in which modern-day Qatari literature bridges past and current circumstances and the rapid economic and social changes facing Qatar.

Poetry, Islamic Thought and Academic Works

Poetry is also integral to Qatar’s culture, and the pavilion features collections of classical Arabic poetry, as well as Nabati poetry. These works keep Bedouin customs alive and express the culture and historical lines of the desert and Gulf as well as contemporary Qatari poets.

The pavilion also showcases Islamic scholarship and academic publishing work such as Dr. Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qaradaghi’s books and research published by Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press.

“This Is Qatar” and National Heritage

One of the most significant cultural publications in the exhibition is “This Is Qatar” highlighting the historical growth and development of Qatar from pearl diving traditions to becoming a modern cultural hub.

Other publications delve deeper into traditional structures, wind towers, historic forts and the current visual arts movement in Qatar, providing an international visitor with a deeper understanding of Qatar’s cultural evolution.
