Flight delays can quickly ruin a well-organised journey. However, when the events are caused by severe weather, airspace limitations, congestion, or issues with operations, passengers can have difficulties finding quick answers and the call center will be overburdened.
Emirates has designed a free date change policy for customers whose flights have met various circumstances, such as a delay, cancellation or interruption. There is no need to pay the standard change fee as travellers are now able to rebook their tickets directly through the online portal, disruptions to their travel are strictly under Emirates’ waiver conditions.
With the flight’s digital-first strategy, an aircraft’s passengers can manage their modifications completely via the Emirates website or its mobile application, without having long lines at the airport or costly rebooking services.
What Emirates’ Free Date-Change Policy Covers?
Emirates has officially given all customers a free date change for eligible bookings made officially from April 2nd if the booking dates are disrupted. It includes waivers for all cabin classes, such as Economy class, Business class and First Class.
But the passengers should know that the airline only will warrant the cancellation fee. Participants might still be required to cover the price disparity between the old ticket and the new ticket if the new one is more expensive.
In the event of severe weather conditions or for certain force majeure situations, Emirates will be employing limited emergency waivers. In those instances, travelers may sometimes be moved on their flights up to 7 days before or after initial travel dates without incurring additional fares for the change.
Who is eligible for Free Rebooking?
In the event of official disruption advisory or cancellation, rescheduling or a delayed flight, the passenger is eligible for online rebooking.
To benefit the traveller, the policy is best for travellers who have booked directly through Emirates (via its official website/login and mobile app, ticket counter in the airport or Emirates call) prior to travel. People who bought tickets via 3rd-party travel agencies need to reach the initial booking agent rather.
Also the airline needs to specify the new travel date falling within the ticket validity period, which is usually 1 year from purchase date.
Step-by-Step Guide to rebook your Emirates flight online
Access the Emirates “Manage Your Booking” Portal
Visit the official Emirates website, or download the Emirates mobile app. On the main page, scroll to the “Manage Your Booking” section. At the top of the home page scroll to “Manage Your Booking.”
Enter Owners PNR & Surname as written on the ticket. Once connected to the Internet, you will see your itinerary and disruption(s) on your screen.
Check for the “Disruption Support” Banner
Once your flight is eligible for the complimentary waiver program, Emirates displays a free “Disruption Support” or “Change My Booking” message on the top of your booking page.
This will enable the airline to temporarily waive penalties and enable you to change your itinerary without traditional penalty charges.
Choose Your New Flight Date
Use the digital travel calendar to view travel dates and alternates. Decide on a new departure time and route to make it work for your new plan.
You’ll now see a fare breakdown page. If the change fee part is completely applicable, it will skip the Change fee text section. The difference left in the fare will be shown if any.
Confirm Your Updated Itinerary
Please note the new departure times, flight connections, and seat assignments before confirming.
After clicking “Confirm changes”, Emirates will create another e Ticket and forward the corrected Itinerary right straight to your registered e-mail address. Always save the new e-ticket at once to prevent any issues at the airport when checking in.
Important Rule for Travel Agency Bookings
Passengers who made bookings on online travel agents (OTAs), third parties or physical travel agents and would like to modify the booking may not be able to find the “Change My Booking” option in the Emirates portal.
In those cases, the aviation booking regulations have travelers reach out to the issuing company directly to resolve matters. To get any changes done, the travel agency will have to manually input Emirates waiver code.
