Sheikh Mohammed: UN Must Remain Humanity’s Beacon for the Next 80 Years

In commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, as well as Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of the United Nations in enhancing peace, security, and human decency. Sheikh Mohammed pointed out the necessity to maintain and renew the concepts of the UN Charter in the modern, complicated international situation. He confirmed that the UAE was committed to dialogue, tolerance, and sustainable development as he actively participated in humanitarian activities, counterterrorism, and curbing extremism. Since 1971, when the UAE became a member of the UN, it has contributed greatly to the UN, including sitting in the Security Council.

UN’s Role in a Changing World

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the fact that the UN was established as the international umbrella for protecting the right to peace, justice, and the dignity of humanity. He told the people eight decades later that the organization needed to reaffirm its commitment to humanity. He requested the re-energizing of the principles of the UN Charter in a way that would guarantee the survival of this vital international purpose of the UN in promoting global peace and security. Global issues are more intricate and challenging than ever before in the world, which is why Sheikh Mohammed observed that it is more crucial than ever to support the values enshrined in the UN Charter.

UAE’s Commitment to Global Cooperation

UAE foreign policy has been based on dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence since its formation. The country still contributes to humanitarian efforts, the war on terror, and extremist and hate speech. The UAE became a member of the UN in 1971, and it has participated in making decisions at the international level, including two terms in the Security Council. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the cooperation of the world with the help of similar principles is one of the keys to a peaceful and prosperous future.
