Iraq PM Denounces Houthi Strikes on Saudi Arabia in Talks with Crown Prince

In meetings with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Iraq’s PM condemned Houthi drones and missiles targeting Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, Baghdad affirmed its plans to support regional security and respect to territorial sovereignty and enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the light of the tensions between the parties across the border.

Iraq PM Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Al-Zaidi condemned strikes at King Khalid International Airport and other essential civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia during the Riyadh meeting. The attacks are a serious threat to regional stability and they strengthen Iraq’s resistance against acts that threaten civilian lives and essential facilities,” he said.

Baghdad Pledges to Protect Saudi Territorial Security

Al-Zaidi promised the Saudi leadership that Iraq would not allow its land to be used to attack Saudi Arabia or neighbouring countries. The pledge indicates that Baghdad is keen on strong relations with her neighbours and rejection of Iraqi land from being a hiding place for anti-state elements.

Mohammed bin Salman Welcomes Iraq’s Position

Prince Mohammed bin Salman warmly accepted Baghdad’s approach and pledged to support Iraq’s push for regional dialogue. Both sides urged more security coordination and diplomacy to meet emerging threats and deepen security cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Riyadh Talks Focus on Regional Stability

The talks take place at a time when security concerns are on the rise in the entire GCC region, with attacks on civilians against transports and businesses. Decisions have been taken in response to Iraq’s approach towards strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding among the Arab nations with the aim of calming regional tensions and stress while underlining the sovereignty, stability and peaceful engagement over the region.
