Sharjah Opens Al Taawun Interchange as Part of Major Dubai Road Connectivity Project
The first phase of Al Taawun Interchange to enhance traffic flow between Sharjah and Dubai was launched in the city. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, officially opened the initial sections, including parts of the Al Taawun Interchange. The development is part of a broader project to upgrade several major roads and intersections aimed at spending AED750 million.
Sharjah Road Project Opens Initial Al Taawun Interchange Sections
The first phase entails the activation of newly built bridges and junctions at Al Taawun Interchange. The forward road traffic control will be implemented from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road straight to Expo Centre Sharjah providing better accessibility for motorists commuting towards the Expo Centre Sharjah as well as the surrounding districts.
Sharjah Road Project Aims to Reduce Traffic Congestion
The new alignments are anticipated to provide support to the daily commuters between the city of Sharjah and Dubai and enhance access to the key destinations. The opening creates an opportunity for a demand that coincides with the 45th edition of Sharjah International Book Fair, thus helping to disperse the pressure at the neighbourhood roads as well as the Expo Centre Sharjah.
Sharjah Road Project Forms Part of AED750 Million Plan
The first phase is part of a larger infrastructure project worth AED750 million focused on upgrading key transport hubs and intersections. The programme is on upgrading the capacity of the roads, establishing linkages between the two Emirates and correcting congestion issues at important areas that are frequently traversed by thousands of motorists.
Sharjah Road Project Sets Out Next Development Phase
Al Taawun Tunnel and Roundabout will be fully opened and other bridges will be built at the main industrial streets in the next phase. The construction of the Al Khulafa Al Rashideen Interchange will also continue, expected to dovetail into Jamal Abdul Nasser Street. These enhancements are projected to further bolster Sharjah’s road infrastructure and the connectivity between various parts of the area.
