How to Reclaim 4 Black Points on the UAE’s First Day of School?
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) is providing motorists with another opportunity to clean up their driving records as the 2026-27 school year starts across the UAE. The Federal Traffic Council organises the “Accident-Free Day” throughout the country, in conjunction with police departments in each emirate, which would allow a driver who agrees to safe driving during the first day of school to have four black marks removed from their driving licence.
Registration began on August 17, 2026, and the primary compliance day is August 31, 2026, when students return to classrooms and traffic volumes run during school hours. A simple way to explain the campaign and driver eligibility.
What is the ‘Accident-Free Day’ Initiative?
Accident-Free Day is an annual road safety campaign organised by MOI to coincide with the beginning of the school year, when traffic is significantly higher around schools and residential areas. The campaign is managed locally by individual emirate police forces such as Dubai Police and Ras Al Khaimah Police, who run the campaign and deploy patrols around the school “hot spots” during drop-off and pick-up times to ensure the school is not congested and to support the families.
The initiative is part of the UAE’s move to lower the number of road accidents and strengthen safe driving habits, and it is not only about registering; motorists have to adhere to their side of the pledge on the day as well.
Step 1: Register and Sign the Safety Pledge
Drivers are able to register via the link distributed on the official social media page of the Ministry of Interior @MOIUAE, including by scanning the QR code on the post distributed by the campaign on Instagram. The registration involves signing up with UAE Pass, and thereafter drivers have to accept a pledge that they will drive responsibly on August 31 whilst committing to the safety commitments of the campaign.
The driver clicks on “I agree” and is immediately sent a certificate of participation by email to the address provided in their UAE Pass account.
Step 2: Driving safely on August 31
In order for registered drivers to actually earn the point reduction, they have to abide by the conditions of the pledge during the day. This includes complying with speed limits, maintaining a proper space cushion between vehicles, wearing a seatbelt, not using a cell phone while driving, yielding to pedestrians and yielding to emergency vehicles.
Police officers will be deployed in the vicinity of schools and congestion areas during peak times (usually from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.) to ensure efficient traffic flow and for rapid response if drivers require help.
Step 3: Get Your Points Automatically Removed
Drivers don’t have to apply separately by Aug. 31. The Ministry of Interior said the removal of four black points from the driving records of motorists who meet all of the pledge conditions will be effected immediately on Sept. 25, 2026. Based on the experience with this campaign in 2025, an SMS is usually sent when the points are cleared.
Reminder for Drivers
A black point in the UAE will stay on for 12 months, and if a driver gets 24 points, the license will be suspended for 3-6 months based on their previous driving record. Accident-Free Day is a well-conceived, substantiated method to lower that balance, but it is only for drivers who actually do not commit violations on that day. It is important to register early and plan traffic routes around school areas, especially for motorists who already have points on their licence.
FAQs
Q1. When is Accident-Free Day 2026?
The first compliance day is the first day of the 2026-27 school year, August 31st, 2026. The campaign registration started on 17 August 2026.
Q2. How can I sign up for the campaign?
Registration will be made via the link shared on the official social media of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) @MOIUAE, or by scanning the QR code on the campaign’s Instagram account and registering with UAE Pass.
Q3. When will the four black points be taken away?
The Ministry of Interior has planned for the points that have been registered and pledged to be removed on September 25, 2026, for all drivers who have registered, signed the pledge and met the safety requirements on August 31.
Q4. In case of my registration and then committing a traffic violation on August 31st, what will happen?
