One of the largest changes to the tourism landscape in the GCC region is near, with the introduction of the “GCC Grand Tours Visa,” officially titled as the GCC Unified Tourist Visa.
The new system will eventually enable passport holders to visit the six GCC countries with a single digital permit — United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait.
The project aims at attracting more tourists, making regional travel easier and ensuring the Gulf is seen as a single destination for visitors to the region and beyond, officials say.
Dubai-Bahrain Pilot Launch Planned for Q4 2026
The visa system will take effect in the first phase in a limited manner, focussed on a pilot corridor between Dubai International Airport and Bahrain International Airport.
The trial for GCC Unified Visa is expected to be launched in 2026 between October and December. The default will be a combination of biometric smart gates and QR-code verification, to move between UAE and Bahrain, all travelers will have to undergo a single immigration screening procedure during the pilot.
The pilot will allow authorities to develop and validate the solution of real-time data sharing between the immigration systems, which will be rolled out nationally throughout the GCC region in 2027.
Expected Visa Fees and Validity
The authorities of the region are looking to make the coordinated visa “less expensive” than the individual tourist visas they would be issuing.
The fee for the standard visa that covers one country is from USD $90 to $105, and for the “Grand Tour” visa for all GCC states it could range from USD $110 to $130.
The multi-country permit is supposed to pave the way for a stay of 60 to 90 days with possibilities of flexible entry and exit in the participating countries of the Gulf.
How will the GCC Grand Tours Visa Work?
The process of applying the visa will be completely digital and will not include appointments with the Embassy nor physical stamps on the visa.
All travelers will use an online centralized travel application and will be issued an electronic visa with a secure QR code. The visa would allow for an unrestricted first entry in any country that is part of the GCC in the country of origin.
For instance, one can reach Riyadh, drive through to Doha and finally leave from Dubai with the same permit.
Tourism-Only Rules Remain Strict
Officials have now made it clear they are only offering the GCC Grand Tours Visa for tourism and leisure trips. The visa will NOT authorise work or formal business.
Those who enter the Gulf for employment will still need to abide by the existing immigration and labour laws of the country they enter. Requirements such as bank statements and enough funds as well as travel insurance will also be expected by authorities from select nationalities.
Why the Unified Visa Could Transform Gulf Tourism?
The new system could radically change travel dynamics throughout the region, according to tourism experts.
Visitors who would previously make a single trip to the Gulf could start grouping more than a single country together for one trip instead. This is likely to have positive effects on the regional air carriers, the hospitality sector and other companies in the tourism sector in the GCC countries.
The single visa would also boost the Gulf’s bid for International tourist ranks as a European/ESEA bug.
