Saudi Students International Chemistry Olympiad

The Saudi Arabian national Chemistry team has earned 4 medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad and have been a testament to the country’s rising capabilities in mastering the scientific field. The perfectly organised event hosted 363 students from 92 countries and was one of the world’s most difficult academic competitions for young chemists.

Saudi Arabia’s Medal Winners

The team of four members of Saudi’s National Team came home from the exam room with international accolades, both theoretical and practical, as they performed with excellence in the challenge of the exam.

Ali Ahmed Bawazir – Riyadh Region

Ali Ahmed Bawazir, representing the General Administration of Education Riyadh won a Silver Medal in outstanding performance in practical experiments and advanced chemistry theory.

His success shows the importance of Riyadh education programs and the pre-competition training given by them before participating in the international competition.

Ali Salem Al-Yami – Najran Region

Ali Salem Al-Yami of the General Administration of Education in Najran was awarded the second Silver Medal.

His performance exemplifies the success of the nation’s brilliant educational programs, which are not just limited to big cities, but have made an impact on education within the Kingdom as a whole.

Abdulaziz Badr Al-Juaid – Madinah Region

Abdulaziz Badr Al-Juaid of Madinah won a Bronze Medal in a race that included some of the world’s brightest young scientists.

Mujtaba Abdulilah Al-Tarouti – Eastern Region

The other Eastern Region, Mujtaba Abdulilah Al-Tarouti, won a medal and a Bronze Medal. Coming on top of having all of the members from his team get recognised internationally, his performance was a complete sweep of the Saudi delegation.

Mawhiba: The Driving Force Behind the Success

The team’s success is attributed to the Mawhiba Foundation, considered the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity and the Ministry of Education.

Local and international training camps were held throughout the year by very efficient chemistry specialists. They learned the subjects of Physical, Organic, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, and also learned various advanced laboratory techniques that were used at the Olympiad.
