Brazil is hosting the G20 Summit on Monday and Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, amid the participation of leaders of the 19 member countries. The Summit represents the conclusion of tasks carried out by the country holding the group’s rotating presidency.
Since December 1, 2023, Brazil has been focusing on strengthening cooperation among member states to find solutions to key global challenges. The country is promoting dynamic initiatives, commitment to sustainable practices and inclusive dialogue.
Deepening UAE-Brazil bilateral relations in focus
The UAE has declared its support for the priorities of the Brazilian G20 presidency – such as global governance, combating poverty and hunger, and addressing climate and energy challenges. The Gulf state is participating as a guest country at the Summit.
The UAE and Brazil share a friendly bilateral relationship. In 2019, both nations decided to take their steadily progressing relations to the status of strategic partnership. The UAE is one of Brazil’s largest economic partners in the Middle East.
UAE investments in Brazil are estimated at $5 billion, supported by the presence of major Emirati companies such as Mubadala and Yahsat. Dubai hosted the COP28 Summit in 2023. Baku is hosting this year and Belem in Brazil is set to play the host in 2025.
UAE keen to participate in all G20 ministerial meetings
Throughout the year, the UAE has been keen to participate in all G20-related ministerial meetings held in Brazil. These included the Foreign Ministers Meeting, The Sherpa Meeting, and the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting.
G20 members represent about 85% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and more than 75% of global trade. The UAE and G20 countries share deepening bilateral relations. Trade and investment ties have also been seeing good progress in recent years.
