Who Is David Jonsson? Meet the British Actor Set to Play the New Black Panther in Black Panther 3

It has been officially announced that the MCU will conjure a new face to embody one of the most iconic legacies left behind by Marvel Studios. At the same event, Marvel revealed that the British actor David Jonsson will portray the British Prince T’Challa II (adult), who will make his debut as the Black Panther in the December 2028 film Black Panther 3.

Marvel enthusiasts have welcomed the news, making it a certainty that the movie will find a large audience in the GCC region where superhero films always seem to have a huge fan following. If Jonsson’s casting isn’t enough to bring us a new age in Wakanda thus far, it’s certainly something he’s definitely bringing back in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman.

From East London to Hollywood

David Jonsson was born in Custom House, East London and had an acting passion at a young age. Later he completed a degree of acting at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, one of the United Kingdom’s top acting schools in 2019.

He was well-trained in classical theatre and moved on to TV and films where his acting skill in this department coupled with his natural screen presence took immediate notice.

Breakthrough Performances

His first national break came when he was cast as the hard but honest Gus Sackey in HBO and BBC’s successful financial show Industry, which stars Tomer Sisley and Jeffrey Klarner.

He then continued to soar, starring in the romantic comedy Rye Lane (2023) and pulling down critical kudos in a role that saw him soar as an acting prospect in Britain.

Hollywood Success with Alien: Romulus

In 2024, Jonsson had an international breakthrough in Alien: Romulus, the film directed by Fede Álvarez. He portrayed the character of another synthetic human (Andy), who [in this sci-fi thriller] showed emotional depth.

His acting work was credited as one of the bits that made the film so great and amazing whether it was in action or drama or character development, he was able to balance it all and this is definitely a quality that impressed Marvel Studios.

Becoming the New Black Panther

In Black Panther 3, Jonsson will have his biggest role yet as one of the sons of Nakia and King T’Challa: Jonathan is playing the role of the adult Prince T’Challa II. While playing the child, the character was introduced in the ending of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), which had the other character’s soul strapped to a spear.

The upcoming film is poised to delve into how he came to adopt his royal identity, take possession of the Black Panther mantle and guide Wakanda into the future and face new political and cosmic threats along the way.

Beyond Marvel

In addition to being a big name in the acting arena, David Jonsson is also making a name for himself in the fashion industry. Recently, he was also announced as a new ambassador of the luxury fashion house Loewe, which shows the growth of his influence beyond cinema.

Cast in television, independent and blockbuster movies, Jonsson is one of the United Kingdom’s hottest stars today. It’s expected that this will put him on the screen of a wider global audience for the first time in Marvel Comics.
