Beach or AC? How to Safely Plan Your Outdoor Long Weekend Around UAE’s 48°C Heatwave

UAE Eid Al Adha heatwave 2026

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) is warning the UAE of one of the hottest durations before and after Eid Al Adha over the weekend with the highest temperature expected to hit 48°C. The heat wave is likely to last from May 25th – May 31st, 2026 – the exact time when millions of people are going on beach trips, desert outings, and family picnics.

The highest temperatures will hit inland places like Liwa and Al Ain and in the coastal cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, evening and overnight humidity is expected to persist in the most extreme form. Mixed with the dusty weather, coupled with low visibility in certain areas, the weather is dominating the conversations in the UAE as the holiday rush approaches.

UAE Eid Weather Forecast

Current weather conditions call for extreme heat during the day in the majority of parts of the country. Average Weather Conditions for the Afternoon in the interior will be in the 43°C – 48°C range while coastal cities will experience afternoon highs between 38°C to 42°C.

There will also be a significant rise in humidity, particularly in the evenings and early mornings. Humidity upto 75-90 % would create uncomfortable situations over the coastal areas, increasing chances of fog/mist formation in coastal waterfront and highway districts.

There is light to moderate wind around 10 to 25 kmph is forecast. But during the day, the areas exposed to the wind may experience extreme gusts up to 35 kmph, thus causing dusty conditions and some temporary hindrance to visibility on the roads.

Why Is This Heatwave Different During Eid Al Adha?

Holiday days are typically the time for outdoor weddings, beach partying and road tripping throughout the Emirates. This year’s Eid weather pattern is saying something special though – in 2020 the notorious scorching heat is falling on coinciding extended public holiday break.

Families that were thinking about barbequing, going out for brunch, exploring the park or going on a desert camping trip have been reconsidering schedules due to the dangerous heat of the afternoons. Also taking place is a significant and visible trend in the tourism sector and beach destinations toward nightlife and indoor activities.

When the conditions are that hot and humid, meteorologists call it a ‘heat stress environment’ in which the human body will not cool efficiently. This greatly increases the chance of dehydration, heat exhaustion or sun stroke.

Beach or Indoor Plans? The Smartest Way to Schedule Activities

If citizens are going to visit the beach for Eid, they are highly encouraged to avoid visiting during those days. The best times for outdoor activity are early in the morning, before 10 AM when it is cooler; or later in the evening after dark when it cools off.

The Dubai beaches might receive a much larger turnout of tourists for the night as they might be safer at night. Short term rental centers for holidays and vacation rentals both inside and out will see a spike in bookings during the long weekend as well as shopping malls, cinemas, family entertainment centres, museums and staycation hotels.

As people with a resolve for being outdoors, the need for hydration must be paramount. This holiday season, it’s not too much to ask to bring water, electrolyte drinks, and cooling towels with at least high SPF sunscreen to help protect you from the sun.

Driving Safety During Dust, Heat, and Humidity

The NCM has additionally urged drivers to be careful on foggy days, humid weather and dusty days. Morning road side moisture can create visibility issues particularly on coastal roads near westland and open roads.

Caution should be taken with regard to tire pressure: In hot weather, blowouts can become more likely. Car drivers are also reminded to store emergency water with their car and never leave electronics, perfumes or batteries visible in the vehicle on a sunny day when it is parked.

The dusty weather due to sudden gusts may lead for a brief period to low visibility on motorways between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and north of Emirates. Slowing down and keeping safe distance behind will be a key ingredient in the holiday trip.

Health Risks Residents Should Not Ignore

Doctors globally in the UAE are still suggesting against staying in direct sunlight for too long in the middle of the day. Extreme heatwaves are a particular threat for children, seniors, and people who have respiratory or heart disease.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion range from muscle cramps, unusual fatigue, nausea, urge to vomit, dizziness, to headaches and excessive sweating. If symptoms get worse and/or the body temperature increases a lot, urgent medical intervention might be needed.

Caffeine is also advised to be avoided during the day as it could lead to dehydration among residents as well. Light colored, loose calicoded clothing, paired with spending peak heat hours in an air conditioned environment can mitigate health risks greatly.
