The labor cases court in Saudi Arabia reports that 133,432 labor cases were disposed of in 2024 in a total of 291,515 sessions. Having a vibrant economy with a heavy industrial presence, Riyadh was at the head of the regions with 43,920 cases. Following are significant figures for Mecca at 31,637 cases and Eastern Province at 21,424. The Asir region contained 10,348 cases and Medina with 7,657, smaller regions such as Jazan, the Northern Borders and Al Baha had even fewer.
This corresponds to a 21% increase from the previous year as the Kingdom has continued its economic growth and urbanization processes. The rising tide is attributed to the huge number of expatriate labor and a vacuum within a changing labor market. In response, accommodation measures for expeditious dispute resolution have been introduced. The primary one involves mediation when the dispute is still young assuring a friendly settlement occurs between parties to the conflict.
Saudi Arabia, determined in its aspiration to tackle the challenges posed by the labour market and stabilization of the worker/payee relations is making strides in modernising its legal framework, one such in the form of the establishment of labour courts.
