Abu Dhabi launches new electric VTOL aircraft for urban air mobility
Abu Dhabi has launched its first electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, marking a radical leap into the future of the shifting transport landscape. This innovative new aircraft, which is environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing, was revealed by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and will fundamentally alter the way urban mobility is conceived across the UAE.
The aircraft is fully electric with the ability to take off and land vertically like a helicopter, making it comparable to other modes of urban ground transit in very congested areas. Its zero emissions, lower noise, and ability to avoid traffic mean eVTOLs are being touted as the next sustainable transport mode.
Built in collaboration with major global aviation stakeholders, the model aircraft is part of Abu Dhabi’s renewed program aiming to position the Emirates as a global hub for advanced air mobility. Initially, the aircraft will be used strictly for testing efforts or public demonstrations, with commercial launches in eVTOL anticipated over the next several years.
“This launch supports the UAE vision as a smart city as well as UAE’s focus on advanced clean technology and innovation solutions. This will attract foreign direct investment, create local jobs, and support the development of an aerospace sector in the region.
