Dubai to Add 6 New Bus and Taxi Lanes in 2025 to Reduce Travel Time
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans for the city to open 6 new dedicated lanes for buses and taxis by 2025. The new lanes will stretch to 13 kilometers, which extends the existing dedicated lane network to 20 kilometers.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA said the project is to reduce traffic congestion, promote the use of public transport and improve the commuters’ experience of using public transport.
In 2024, the RTA attributed improved performance of public transport in Dubai to AI and smart systems. The bus system includes a fleet of 1,390 buses that achieve an impressive 88% coverage of the emirate, has 187 routes within the emirate, and achieves 11,000 trips every day.
In 2024, there were over 188 million passengers that used buses, which is an increase in passengers of 8% from 2023.
