Oman Launches ‘Inter Astra Oman’ Initiative With Introductory Meeting in Washington
Oman kicked off its “Inter Astra Oman” initiative with an introductory event at its embassy in Washington D.C, on October 28, 2026. The bilateral programme for 12 months will focus on pairing between Omani space enterprises and American commercial and technology enterprises, and will aim at fostering investment, technical cooperation and development in the Sultanate’s fledgling space sector.
Oman Space Initiative Targets Bilateral Partnerships
The Inter Astra Oman project seeks to ensure Omani companies have the appropriate technology and infrastructure matched with US companies with investment funds, advanced manufacturing and skills specialised expertise. The programme will seek to raise awareness of commercial partnership opportunities; and enhance the bilateral space sector relationship.
Oman Space Initiative Focuses on Technology Transfer
The programme aims to equip Joint Ventures, to increase technology transfer and to debottleneck commercial space operations. This also aims to bring sustainable FDI to Oman’s space sector. Khalid Abdullah Al Balushi, First Secretary of the Embassy of Oman with special responsibility for space cooperation, explained the stages in the project, the sectors to be targeted, and possible areas of cooperation.
Oman Space Initiative Supports Vision 2040
Inter Astra Oman is based on the guidelines of Oman National Space Program 2023-2033, given by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. It helps in the development of space applications and satellite data services, complementing national space efforts through the Oman Space Accelerator, CubeSat local initiatives and Earth observation satellite agreements.
Oman Space Initiative Aims to Diversify Economy
This contributes to Oman Vision 2040 with the aim of fostering high value employment, enhancing technology startups and SMEs and increasing economic diversification beyond traditional industries.
The geographical location of Oman can also provide opportunities to build up infrastructure for ground stations in the country and to provide services associated with the satellite during the 12-month period of the programme, while promoting partnerships with the international aerospace sector.
