Abu Dhabi’s AED872m Bridge Network Set to Open in 2027
Abu Dhabi is ready to launch an AED872 million bridge and tunnel project that will link Ramhan Island and Jubail Island to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12) in the second quarter of 2027. The project will be implemented through the Department of Municipalities and Transport with the aim of enhancing access to and developing connectivity in the coastal communities of the emirate to accommodate its growth.
Abu Dhabi Bridge Network Connects Two Islands
They plan to connect Ramhan Island and Jubail Island with the E12 via seven bridges and three tunnels. The network will take up over 166,000 square metres and will connect with roads, ramps and utility corridors for expanding residential, tourist and commercial activities.
Abu Dhabi Bridge Network Investment Reaches AED872 Million
The project is expected to cost AED872 million ($237 million), and is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to expand its transport network. Network development director general Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei said that the network will enhance ease of access to islands, in addition to creating new development zones and economic opportunities.
Abu Dhabi Bridge Network Includes Sustainable Features
The project also features LED lights that are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs, helping to conserve electricity. There are also plans to recycle over 90% of the construction waste over 2,200 tonnes of materials. These are measures that are in line with broader environmental and resource-efficiency goals.
Abu Dhabi Bridge Network Targets 2027 Opening
The network is targeted to be opened in the second quarter of 2027, which will enhance connectivity for those travelling to the two islands by residents, visitors and businesses. The extra access roads and utility corridors are also designed to facilitate future growth in line with Abu Dhabi’s strategic urban planning and sea coast project plans.
