Kuwait Army Chief Joins Paris Meeting on Lebanon’s Security

Kuwait’s Armed Forces chief, Lt. Gen. Khaled Draj Saad Al-Sharayan attended Aqaba Initiative meetings in Paris with other senior military officials and regional and international security partners to discuss how to support the armed and security forces in Lebanon.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun attended the Kuwait Army Chief Paris meeting. The discussions were also attended by military chiefs and experts from multiple Arab, Western and international parties.

Paris Talks Focus on Lebanese Armed Forces

Building up the capacity of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and Internal Security Forces were a major part of the centre of talks in Paris 2026. The operational priorities and mechanisms for coordination of international assistance in light of Lebanon’s identified needs were discussed.

The issues discussed also included Lebanon’s security and sovereignty and work to reinforce the ability of state institutions to perform their duties. The meeting follows coordination of international support with Lebanon’s official security institutions going on.

International Support for Lebanon’s Security Forces

Speakers from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, the USA, the UK, Egypt, Italy, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Canada and others were invited to the gathering in Paris. Since the Aqaba Initiative Paris Lebanon discussions involved so many broad members, it was shown that it is an international matter.

In 2015 King Abdullah II convened the Aqaba Process to drive coordination, cooperation and sharing of expertise among partners in the region and elsewhere on security issues. Lebanon was at the heart of the discussions during the latest round that was exclusively about enhancing Lebanon’s security institutions in the Paris meeting.

Kuwait Reaffirms Military Cooperation

Lieutenant General Khaled Draj Saad Al-Sharayan’s involvement is a reflection on Kuwait’s role within the global discussions surrounding the security needs of Lebanon. In the news release about the meeting, Kuwait reiterated its commitment to military cooperation and coordination with the region and the world.

Lebanon is looking to this forum to explore ways of supporting the LAF and ISF. The meeting provides an opportunity for participating countries to coordinate and promote assistance for Lebanon as well as to share their perspectives on security threats in the region.
