The Gulf Cooperation Council has designated Qatar’s capitol, the city of Doha, as the GCC Tourism Capital for 2026. This designation reflects Doha’s rapid ascent in terms of popularity within the regional tourism market and will be presented just before the city hosts several upcoming major global sporting events.
Aligning with Qatar Vision 2030
The Qatar Vision for 2030 seeks to diversify the economy beyond hydrocarbons by developing tourism, sports and culture. In naming Doha the Tourism Capital, this was accelerated and supported by the development of new infrastructure such as Hamad International Airports and eco-friendly resorts. Therefore, visitor numbers are expected to increase considerably with the goal of 6 million visitors annually by the year 2030.
Exciting Attractions and Events Ahead
World-class sites such as the Museum of Islamic Art and lively markets at Souq Waqif , as well as luxurious marinas at The Pearl-Qatar, are what will attract many visitors. The year 2026 will be filled with festivals, heritage tours and adventurous outdoor activities within the desert. Projects like mangrove kayaking demonstrate Qatar’s emphasis on sustainable tourism.
Economic Boost and Global Appeal
This designation will create jobs, stimulate hospitality, and position Doha as a MENA hub. Partnerships with airlines and hotels ensure seamless travel.
