Qatar officially inaugurated its first Purple Saturday, an initiative to support and empower disabled populations and to encourage inclusion. The initiative is in collaboration with Qatar Tourism (QT), the Ministry of Social Development and Family, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, through which Qatar’s Purple initiative allows every last Saturday of July to be Purple Saturday in Qatar.
Purple Saturday was started in 2021, originally by Saudi Arabia’s Authority of Persons with Disabilities (APD). Now, Purple Saturday is an initiative that has extended to all of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. Purple Saturday in the GCC region brings to light the support of people with special needs and is a united effort, which includes increasing awareness, enhancing accessibility, and activating greater participation.

In its first year, Visit Qatar, which is QT’s promotional arm, is celebrating Purple Saturday at the Qatar Toy Festival, where access to the festival is free for all, including persons with disabilities.
In support of this initiative, 16 hotels and retail partners of Qatar Tourism are actively involved in providing special discounts and tailor-made services for persons with disabilities from July 26 to August 1, 2025. Members of the public are invited to visit the official website of the Ministry of Social Development and Family to download the link to the Purple Saturday digital card, which can be used at participating locations during the campaign. Purple Saturday is more than a celebration; it is a movement that demonstrates Qatar’s increasing commitment to creating a greater inclusive and accessible society for all.
