The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 new mega auction first-ever day in Jeddah witnessed some unprecedented bidding and twist. Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant became the most expensive IPL buy ever for Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore. Before that Shreyas Iyer was involved in a bid of ₹26.75 crore with Punjab Kings dealing the first big knock. On day 1, some of the big names that comprised David Warner and Jonny Bairstow could not find a buyer and this news thrilled the cricketing world.

Fierce Bidding Breaks Records in IPL Mega Auction

Lucknow Super Giants winning the auction bid to secure Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore was a new record in IPL history bidding tough competition from RCB, SRH, and Delhi Capitals. Delhi tried a Right to Match (RTM) card, but backed out at the last moment. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer was purchased for ₹26.75 crore by Punjab Kings in a bidding war with Delhi Capitals.

Ravichandran Ashwin also made headlines as he went back to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹9.75 crore. The team successfully managed to get back the veteran spinner after a very tough battle with the Rajasthan Royals.

Day 1 Unsolds in 2025 IPL Mega Auction 

The biggest shocks were kept for some of the biggest names, with David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Devdutt Padikkal remaining undrafted. Even the Players that performed very well in the earlier seasons appeared to be conservative, which focused mostly on the young players and the multi-purpose players.
