UAE-Egypt bilateral relations in focus as Emirati leader begins high-profile visit

UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed arrived in Egypt on Thursday. His Egyptian counterpart abdel Fattah El-Sisi greeted him on arrival in Cairo, underlining the significance of the trip in bolstering long-standing relations and opening up areas of collaboration.

The UAE delegation includes Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, deputy chairman of the presidential court for special affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, adviser for special affairs at the presidential court, and Dr Sultan al-Jaber, minister of industry and advanced technology.

Emirati and Egyptian leaders meet regularly in support of decades-long friendship

Sheikh Mohamed signed the VIP guestbook, noting his pleasure to be joining his Egyptian counterpart at the ceremony and hoping for continued progress in Egypt. The leaders also participated in a flag-raising ceremony.

Later, the UAE and Egyptian presidents attended a ceremony for graduates of the country’s military academy and colleges. The leaders meet regularly in the Emirates and Egypt in support of a decades-long friendship.

The UAE and Egypt share deep-rooted political, social and economic partnerships and are both committed to the fight against climate change. Egypt hosted the COP27 Summit in November 2022, and Dubai hosted the next climate conference the same month last year.

Timeline of UAE-Egypt engagements on different occasions

In a recent development, Sheikh Mohamed and El-Sisi met in Egypt as part of a private visit. The leaders toured a city on the country’s Mediterranean coast as they explored the prominent landmarks and development projects in the area.

In March, the UAE and Egyptian presidents held meticulous discussions aimed at furthering partnerships that unite the countries in the economic, development and political fields. In May 2022, both nations and Jordan entered into an industrial partnership.

In October that year, the UAE and Egypt staged a significant event in Cairo to mark 50 years of close relations. Ministers and officials from both countries attended the event. The celebration happened under the slogan of ‘Egypt and the UAE – one heart‘.
