Etihad Rail Baggage Check: Will Your Standard Suitcase Fit the New Train Racks?
With the opening of passenger transport service, Etihad Rail has come up with a faster and more comfortable mode of travelling between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Unlike intercity buses, the railway has set procedures for its vehicles to carry bags and ensures security such as those at airports.
Before you make your trip to the station, it is important for you to know some of these rules, as knowing them beforehand will help you avoid having to deal with wasted time and time-consuming delays.
So if you are hesitating in carrying your regular suitcase for your next trip, here is the information you need to know about the baggage allowance, storage rules, and pet policies, as well as prohibited items, of Etihad Rail.
Etihad Rail’s Baggage Policy
All passengers can get up to 2 bags as free keeps free of charge in Comfort Class or Premium Class. This allowance has been created to offer sufficient room for passengers who need to travel at the weekend, for business visitors and for the safe storage of stock and food and for comfortable passenger seating.
Passengers are reminded that there may be size restrictions on their baggage. Bags which are too large will not be accepted unless a prior arrangement has been made with Etihad Rail.
What Size Suitcase Is Allowed?
For each bag the maximum size in cm. is:
- Height: 55 cm
- Width: 40 cm
- Depth: 23 cm
These sizing measurements are close to the fit of a lot of international carriers’ carry-on bags. If the suitcase fits into the designated cabin size suitcase spaces found in each passenger coach, it should be a fit inside the side-by-side lockers for overnights at the airport.
There may be certain suitcases or bulky travel articles that will need special attention prior to your trip.
Where Should You Store Your Luggage?
Luggage is to be placed by the passengers in the space allotted for passenger luggage storage only provided on the ship. Small cabin bags are to be kept in over-head baggage racks, and larger approved bags in the designated luggage spaces.
Luggage should not be placed in train aisles, or in front of train entry doors, emergency doors, or accessible seating areas. It is critical to keep all walkways free along the way.
Travelling with Oversized Luggage
For messages, requests for additional luggage and sports luggage and Surplus luggage that don’t conform to its normal luggage allotment, you’ll need to contact the Etihad Rail customer service before departure.
Advance approval allows the operator to better plan to ensure the space is available for you and your bags and that they don’t compromise other passengers.
If an interviewed person enters the station with unauthorized and over-sized luggage there may be delay or he/she might not be allowed on with the overweight luggage.
Pet Travel Rules on Etihad Rail
Under controlled conditions, some domestic pets can be brought on board by Etihad Rail. Dogs and falcons are okay, but must keep inside approved travel carriers throughout the route.
Notably, the pet carrier must be the same maximum size as your two standard carry-on bags and should be used according to passengers’ packing plans.
For both, the carrier requirement will be waived, but the dog and handler will be required to register with Etihad Rail not later than 24 hours prior to their journey.
Items That Are Strictly Prohibited
Etihad Rail’s extensive pre-boarding security screening ensures the safety of passengers. These are not allowed on board:
- Weapons, guns, ammunition or explosives and dangerous weapons.
- Flammable materials, compressed gases, radioactive materials and industrial chemicals.
- Large, sharp tools and/or dangerous objects.
- Items that smell strongly or badly; may result in an annoyance to other passengers.
To prevent delays when arriving at a station for security screening, passengers are advised to thoroughly check their belongings before arrival.
Tips for a Smooth Boarding Experience
For a hassle-free trip, weigh your luggage with a tape measure before you pack it for the trip and make sure it conforms to the official baggage size specification requirements. Show up early, to allow space for security screening, particularly on holidays and the weekends.
Please arrange any extra equipment or animals with Etihad Rail’s customer support in advance. Good preparation will help your boarding to be efficient and quick.
