The Doha Film Institute will host the 11th Qumra, its annual Arab and international talent incubator from April 4 to 9, 2025 in Doha with virtual sessions running through April 12 to 14, 2025. For this year, Qumra will guide 49 projects of filmmakers from 23 countries including 18 projects of Qatar based films, showcasing the country’s thriving creative sector.
One of the pillars of Qumra is the Master Classes taught by Qumra Masters. The 2025 lineup includes
Lav Diaz- The grandfather of slow cinema for his intense examinations of the human condition.
Darius Khondji- Acclaimed cinematographer famous for his work on light and composition mastery.
Walter Salles- Reputed Brazilian filmmaker known for films such as The Motorcycle Diaries.
Anna Terrazas- Renowned Mexican costume designer whose genius for cultural authenticity combined with innovation has earned her numerous awards.
Johnnie To- Talented Hong Kong director with a varied legacy of storytelling.
The Qumra Screenings will feature six interesting feature length titles backed by the Doha Film Institute, showcasing rich regional storytelling and international titles.
Participants may either opt for the Qumra Pass (In person), allowing access to all Master Classes and screenings or the Qumra Pass Online which allows on demand streaming of Master Class recordings up until April 20, 2025.
Qumra 2025 reinforces its commitment to developing upcoming filmmakers, giving them access to mentorship, industry networks and an outlet for their work further solidifying Doha’s status as a cinematic innovation hub.
