Doha Diamond League- Neeraj Chopra to Launch First Throw of 2025
Indian javelin specialist Neeraj Chopra will begin his 2025 athletics campaign in the Doha Diamond League on May 16. After struggling with injury throughout 2024, Chopra is now eyeing greater distances and consistency this season. Chopra was the 2023 champion with an 88.67m performance and 2024 was 88.36m second to Jakub Vadlejch.
Looking back at his journey, Chopra said, “Last year gave me lots of experience but for me the highlight was being on the podium for India again at the Olympic Games. I am training free of any injury and really enjoying the hard work I’ve been putting in with Jan Zelezny.”
In 2024, Chopra faced a struggle with a groin injury but still went on to take a silver medal at the Paris Olympics where Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal with an Olympic record. He competed in the Diamond League Final with a fracture.
Focusing on his plan for the new season, Chopra said, “ I understand that when I am competing (in Doha) the fans have huge expectations of me. Under the right conditions in the right atmosphere, that’s definitely attainable. For me that’s more important than going after a number.”
Following the Doha league, Chopra will set up camp at the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Haryana on May 24. The one day event, which is a World Athletics ‘A’ category meet is yet another chance for the athlete to showcase his skills on home soil.
As Chopra begins his 2025 season, supporters and followers are excited for his performances in the hopes of experiencing a year full of great throws and unshakable consistency.
