Qatar Amir Holds Talks With Russian President on Regional Issues

On October 27, 2026, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, met Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, at the Kremlin in Moscow. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit, which was held under the theme of security, diplomatic mediation and energy market stability. Economic cooperation and humanitarian issues were discussed by both the leaders as well.

Qatar Amir Discusses Strait of Hormuz Security

Sheikh Tamim pointed to maritime security and the impact on commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz due to overall regional developments. He reiterated the need for diplomatic effort and dialogue that can help defuse the situation and sent Qatar’s message to Russia to help on that front. Putin noted Qatar’s leadership in bringing peace to the Middle East.

Qatar Amir and Putin Review Energy Cooperation

Qatar and Russia as top natural gas suppliers met with the GECF to coordinate actions for global energy market stability and to ensure energy supply chains. They discussed the development of energy transport and infrastructure opportunities and the development of stronger economic ties. Putin also noted the growth of bilateral trade volumes and cooperation in the field of investments and in tourism and cultural exchanges.

Qatar Amir Raises Gaza and Palestine Crisis

The leaders spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the Palestinian issue in general, focusing on the importance of achieving peace and justice. They also discussed broader regional security challenges, such as trouble between the United States and Iran. These concerns were included in the larger discussion on diplomacy and stability in the region.

Qatar Amir Meets Russian Officials on Economic Ties

Russia’s representatives were First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov. Qatar’s team consisted of senior officials and representatives of the Amiri Diwan and QatarEnergy. Sheikh Tamim also met Igor Sechin, chief executive of Rosneft to discuss cooperation in the energy sphere, as well as projects related to joint energy infrastructure.
