July 9 Deadline: Step-by-Step Guide to Check Your Visa Fine Exemption Status via the GDRFA Portal
The grace period has officially been scrapped on Thursday, July 9, 2026, according to the Federal Authority for ICP. If a visitor does not regularize his or her status or depart the country, after this period, he or she is likely to be liable to daily harsh overstay fines.
Those whose overstay happened due to earlier this year’s disruption to flights and closures of airspace should be the first to verify their exemption. Luckily, visitors to Dubai can check their visa status online via the GDRFA website before proceeding.
Who Is Eligible for the Temporary Fine Exemption?
The UAE authorities say the exemption is for certain groups of affected persons.
They cover expatriates whose tourist or visit visas had just expired when they were not allowed to leave the country, exit permit holders who were unable to leave before their permits expired, and persons whose residence visas had been cancelled prior to the travel restrictions but were “stranded”.
However, if the over stay was caused by something other than the regional flight cancellations, normal immigration laws would remain in effect.
Step-by-Step Guide to Check Your Visa Fine Exemption Status
Step 1: Visit the Official GDRFA Portal
Visit the official website of Dubai and look for visa services. Try to use the authorized government website; otherwise, you may be dealing with a fraudulent site or an unofficial service provider.
Step 2: Access the Visa Status or Fine Inquiry Service
Identify the internet service and resource that will enable users to check visa details, overstay or immigration records. Depending on the type of visa, the portal offers a variety of enquiry services.
Step 3: Enter Your Passport Details
Enter your passport number as shown on travel documents. You might also need to choose the nationality and enter other data elements the system will be asking for. Please note that all information is double-checked for search correctness.
Step 4: Review Your Immigration Status
When your details have been verified, it will show your visa status as well as any overstay details that may be available.
If you are relieved by the grace period because your record shows this, you may go with your immigration decision before the deadline of July 9th.
Step 5: Take Immediate Action
Don’t forget to book the flight towards the end of the grace period if you plan to leave the UAE. For those who wish to stay in the country on a legal status, an application for status change or Visa amendment to the Immigration office shall be made immediately via the proper immigration application channel.
What If You Are Eligible?
The first one is to leave the UAE. Those who are exempt from the requirement may enter the airport without having to get an Out Pass beforehand or pay overstay fees that have been accrued.
The other way is to regularize their legal status through applying for visa extension, new residency, and a work visa, etc., or the visa status change. Previous overstay fines for the qualifying travel disruption are dropped during the grace period as long as eligible applications are being adjudicated.
What Happens After July 9?
Normal immigration procedures will be again enforced after the grace period is over.
Anyone who chooses not to leave the country or complete the successful status change before the date will be subjected to the normal overstay fine. Authorities have confirmed that if a case qualifies, it will be punishable by a fine of up to AED 200 per day and other administrative charges based on the visa expiration date.
In addition, immigration offices are already busy, and websites for online processing are popular, which can raise the chances for delays in the process the day your visa is due.
FAQs
Who can benefit from the exemption?
The exemption is limited to people whose entry was facilitated by the direct impact of the airlines and airspace closures in the area. They come from some tourist visa holders, exit permit holders and former residents who are secluded after their residence visa was cancelled.
Is there an online platform to find out if I’m fine-exempt for a visa?
Yes. The Dubai-issued visa holders can check their immigration status on the official GDRFA portal using the immigration enquiry option available on it by providing the details asked on the portal in the passport.
Is it required for me to get an Out Pass before leaving the UAE?
Those groups of visitors for whom the said exemption is valid need not obtain a prior Out Pass before leaving the premises, in general. If they are able to leave before the grace period, they can simply fly straight to the airport.
