UAE sends humanitarian aid planes to Zambia and Guinea Conakry as natural disasters threaten people
Under the directives of President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE has dispatched a couple of planes carrying humanitarian aid to Zambia and Guinea Conakry. It is part of the Gulf state’s commitment to respond immediately to crises across the globe.
The UAE has just dispatched a plane transporting 50 tonnes of aid to Zambia as drought continues to negatively impact lives of thousands of people. The country has officially classified the long drought it is suffering from as a national disaster.
The Gulf state also sent another plane carrying 40 tonnes of relief supplies to Guinea Conakry to support those affected by recent flooding. The recent natural disaster in the country has triggered extensive damage and directly affected thousands of families.
UAE’s commitment to responding to humanitarian crises
The UAE leadership and its people are committed to responding urgently to natural disasters, humanitarian crises and environmental challenges that continue to cause trouble for many societies and people across the globe.
The GCC nation is keen to continue international efforts to support communities and assist countries on different continents, irrespective of race, gender, colour, religion, belief or nationality, to uphold the values of human brotherhood.
Drought and flooding in the aforementioned countries is posing substantial damages to agricultural crops, making it immensely difficult to ensure local food supplies. There is an urgent need for more humanitarian support from the international community.
Drought and flooding threatening local food supplies
HE Sultan al-Shamsi, assistant minister of foreign affairs for development and international organisations affairs and member of the international humanitarian affairs council, stressed the UAE’s deepening interest in charitable activities.
He highlighted the solid humanitarian legacy of the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan and his immortal values in international cooperation. The UAE is prominent globally for upholding the values of loyalty, brotherhood, giving and generosity.
Natural disasters such as the drought in Zambia and the flooding in Guinea Conakry are becoming more frequent as the climate crisis deepens. It has never been this urgent to focus on climate finance to tackle the emergency.
