UAE, Egypt continue operation 'Birds of Goodness' to alleviate sufferings of Gazans

The Joint Operations Command of the UAE Ministry of Defence has announced the successful completion of the 32nd ‘Birds of Goodness’ humanitarian operation, airdropping 87 tonnes of aid and Eid clothing to northern Gaza as Israel-Hamas fighting rages on.

Five aircraft, including a couple of C17s from the UAE and the same number of C295s and one C130 aircraft from Egypt, participated in the recent airdrop, delivering essential food items, clothes, toys and several other products for all family members.

The ‘Birds of Goodness’ campaign is part of the ‘Gallant Knight 3’ operation – launched on November 5 under the directives of Emirati leader HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. It is aimed at addressing the needs of Palestinians and fostering hope and joy.

‘Birds of Goodness’ highlights level of UAE-Egypt coordination

The operation targets isolated areas in northern Gaza that are difficult to access by land. The total amount of aid delivered since the launch of the campaign has reached 2,025 tonnes. Moreover, the UAE has already delivered over 2,395 tonnes of aid to northern Gaza.

The brutal Gaza crisis erupted early on October 7 as Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israeli cities, killing some 1,200 people and taking scores of others hostages. Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Gaza, on the other hand, have so far claimed more than 33,000 lives.

Operation ‘Birds of Goodness’ – set to last for several more days – highlights the level of UAE-Egypt coordination to help the Palestinian people in light of the critical circumstances facing their children in the besieged Gaza Strip.

‘Birds of Goodness’ using state-of-the-art GPS system

Late on February 28, joint teams from both countries carried out the inaugural airdrop using about 36 tonnes of food and medical aid. The aid got delivered in special boxes equipped with GPS technology to ensure that it reaches the designated locations safely.

The GPS system is considered one of the latest tools utilised for humanitarian and relief purposes during emergencies. It is a state-of-the-art technology, allowing accurate and easy identification of target locations and ensuring quicker delivery.

The people of northern Gaza have expressed their thanks and appreciation for this notable humanitarian gesture. The operation reflects the determination of the UAE and Egypt to provide all forms of necessary support to the Palestinians.
