Riyadh’s Jump Saudi arena recently witnessed the culmination of the three-star category of the Saudi Equestrian Federation Cup for Show Jumping. The event, spanning Thursday to Saturday, attracted riders from 18 countries and served as a crucial qualifier for the prestigious FEI World Cup.
Ghalia Almousa, a Saudi showjumper, highlighted the competition’s significance, noting it as the second international event of the season and a vital preparatory step for the upcoming four- and five-star shows. The three-star contest featured 130 participants and included 13 rounds, setting the stage for more challenging competitions in the coming weeks.
Among the international riders was British showjumper Barry Dove, who praised the warm reception and competitiveness of the sport in the Kingdom. Dove, currently assisting Saudi jockey and showjumper Nasser Al-Shawaf, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate and contribute to the season’s start.
Kuwaiti rider Ali Al-Khorafi, present at the event, outlined his busy schedule ahead, indicating upcoming CSI fourth and fifth-star shows. Al-Khorafi highlighted the remarkable progress of Gulf nations in equestrian sports, emphasizing their success in the last Asian Games and expressing optimism for future achievements on the global stage.
The tournament, held at the Jump Saudi arena in Janadriyah, Riyadh, seamlessly blended sportsmanship with Saudi culture. Inspired by Najdi architecture and Jeddah’s artistic houses, the obstacle fences added a distinctive local touch. Pop-up stores featuring homegrown clothing and perfume brands, along with a food court, complemented the main event.
One such business, Mehmaz, a Saudi equestrian clothing line, showcased its products in the village. Founder Shrouq bin Muharib, an avid horse rider, expressed enthusiasm about participating in such events, catering exclusively to the equestrian community.
As the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation successfully hosted this show jumping competition, anticipation builds for next month’s elite international Jump Saudi event. Looking further ahead, the federation will make history by hosting the FEI World Cup Finals in April 2024, marking the first time the prestigious event will take place in the Middle East.
