Qatar Backs Bangladesh’s Reform Agenda, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Qatar has reaffirmed its strong support for the reform agenda of Bangladesh’s Interim Government to further improve the country’s political and economic development. Qatar’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Seraya Ali Al-Qahtani expressed his government’s complete support in a meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on March 18, 2025.

The Ambassador Al-Qahtani confirmed Qatar’s willingness to extend any support Bangladesh may need, acknowledging the importance of enhancing bilateral relations. Professor Yunus thanked the Emir of Qatar for the ongoing support and referred to Qatar as a close friend of Bangladesh.

One of the main focuses on the agenda at the meeting was the deepening of trade and investment relations between the two countries. Professor Yunus underscored the need for Qatari businessmen to come and invest in Bangladesh and shift their operations to one of the numerous economic zones in the country. Bangladesh is now ready for business, he stated and said that a forthcoming investment summit would give Qatari firms an ideal opportunity to look around.

The Qatari ambassador acknowledged the invitation and hoped for higher business visits from Bangladesh in the near future. Yunus further shared the constant efforts of the reform agenda of his government, particularly the working of the consensus commission to have dialogue with political parties. Yunus is likely to visit Qatar next month for an international conference.
