Several reports earlier suggested that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan got arrested at Dubai airport. But the prominent Pakistani singer later slammed the reports as “fake and baseless”. But another report has emerged suggesting RFAK has been released on bail post-detention.
This article seeks to bring you the latest updates on the case. RFAK took to Instagram on Monday to deny rumours circulating on social media regarding his arrest. Through a recorded clip, he asked his fans not to pay attention to the cheap stories.
Criminal defamation and contractual violations
The entire arrest saga stems from a criminal defamation complaint Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s former manager Salman Ahmad filed against the singer. A case got registered against RFAK on July 13, if reports are to be believed.
RFAK apparently got arrested as soon as he arrived in Dubai for a musical collaboration. Reports suggest he had been detained at the immigration centre and later taken into police custody for questioning. He eventually got released after submitting his statement.
Both parties have reportedly filed several cases against each other. RFAK has filed a case against his former manager in Pakistan, and the latter has filed cases against the singer in Dubai and the US, claiming criminal defamation and contractual violations.
Reasons behind tensed relations
For the unversed, defamation via social media is a serious offence in Dubai. It is said that Salman Ahmad managed the prominent Pakistani singer for 12 years. The duo decided to go on separate paths in January 2024, reportedly ending the partnership on a bad note.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said at a press conference about his previous management company: “Previously payments were made to the company without my knowledge by the clients and some clients remain trapped. I don’t want the repeat of this episode …”
In response to this, his former manager said: “We always took money through legal means and through Khan’s permission. I have paperwork for every cent Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has taken and I am happy to hand it over to Pakistani authorities.”
