Oman Revolutionizes Elections with AI: Here’s How

In a groundbreaking development for democratic processes, the government of Oman has pioneered the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to present real-time election results to its citizens. The Ministry of Interior collaborated with London-based startup Yepic AI, known for its generative AI technology, to enhance the visual and engaging communication of Shura election results.

Yepic AI’s API, a cutting-edge tool that enables the creation of high-quality videos at scale within minutes and in multiple languages, played a pivotal role in transforming the conventional reporting of election outcomes. The technology, leveraging a single photo, generated custom avatars reflecting the diverse Omani community. These avatars, in turn, delivered real-time election results to citizens throughout the day in a visually compelling manner.

AI’s Contribution

The entire election reporting process is driven by AI, commencing with online voting verified by facial recognition technology powered by AI. The results were compiled and announced via scripts developed by a large language model (LLM), specifically tailored for the elections by AiCubes. These scripts were then articulated by Yepic’s AI presenters, adding a personalized and engaging touch to the communication of results.

The objective behind utilizing generative AI in this context is to provide information to citizens in a more visual, personalized, and engaging manner, with the hope of fostering increased civic participation in the election process.

On an hourly basis, an impressive 400 unique videos were generated using Yepic AI’s technology. These videos, accessible via a dedicated app, were disseminated to each province. Over the course of the day, Yepic AI produced an astounding 10,000 state-of-the-art videos in six languages, including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian.
