The UAE has expressed deep concerns over Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, the continued escalation and its repercussions on regional security and stability. In a statement, the Emirati foreign ministry stressed the importance of providing full protection to civilians.
The Ministry affirmed the necessity of strengthening international endeavours aiming to put an end to the conflict and prevent further loss of life. In the statement released on September 24, the UAE stressed its unflinching position in rejecting violence and escalation.
Diplomacy cannot succeed amid escalation of conflict
The UAE Ministry also emphasised the necessity of resolving disputes through diplomatic means rather than confrontation. The brutal situation along the Lebanon-Israel border is making global headlines as the Israel-Hamas fighting continues for almost a year.
On September 25, the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the EU, UK Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and other allies released a joint statement on the deteriorating situation for civilians in both Lebanon and Israel since October 8 last year.
Diplomacy cannot succeed amid an escalation of conflict. The situation presents an unacceptable risk of a broader regional escalation, the statement read, adding: “This is in nobody’s interest, neither of the people of Israel nor of the people of Lebanon.”
UAE calls on Israel, Lebanon to endorse temporary ceasefire
The joint statement calls for an immediate 21 day ceasefire across the Lebanon-Israel border to provide space for diplomacy for the conclusion of a diplomatic settlement in relation to UNSCR 1701, and the implementation of UNSCR 2735 regarding a Gaza ceasefire.
The allies are calling on all parties, including the governments of Lebanon and Israel, to endorse the temporary ceasefire and to give a real chance to a diplomatic settlement. Such a proposed truce deal is the need of the hour as scores of civilians lose their lives every day.
